Check engine light went out by itself??!! 850 1996

Hi all.
I have had a problem with a re appearing code, P172, bank 1 too rich.
Had it reset once but it came back.
Yesterday, to my surprise the light went out by itself.
Is this a feature that turns the light off if no re occurences
are detected after so many miles or power ups?
