Boost Controllers 850

Do Manual Boost Controllers work for 850 T5s? Some have said yes and some have said no, and I need a definitive answer. I went to www.dawesdevices.com and it leaves you with the feeling that the manual boost controller bypasses the ecu control, but if u read a site such as IPD/TME they claim that only the ECU can control the boost. Who am I to believe? Thanks.
