95 855T with bad crankshaft thrust washers? 850 1995

Hello,
New to this forum and trying to get some info on my 855. Here is a little history;
Bought with 78,000 about a year ago and all seemed well. Last month I notice a good sized oil leak and brught car into local dealer (Smith in SLO). They said I had a bad oil seal and replaced. Three weeks later same leak, and back in the shop. They said the part they replaced must have been bad so they did the work again (no charge). Two weeks later another oil leak. Back in the shop and they call the next day and state that I need a new oil pump. OK get it done.
Next day they call and say that I have major problems, it seems that my crankshaft thrust washers are the cause of the oil seal and pump problems and they start talking about a new engine.
Has anyone had any experiance with this? I truly love this car and have had all the maintance done on it since I owned it but am not sure if I am willing to replace the whole engine. The dealer ended up replacing the oil seal and pump and putting in a "shim" and says this might last from 6months to a year.
Please any help would be great.
