I was a frequent posting brickboard member in years past when I had 240’s but haven’t posted since owning 3 xc90’s. I am a trained master mechanic (Drivability technician in Ford dealerships in the mid 80’s until the late 90’s) who now repairs medical equipment (25 years) in the Texas medical center.
I experienced a died while driving incident last Tuesday.
My car is a 2013 xc90 with 92,xxx miles. Recently my car started hesitating when accelerating after decelerating for a short time. That hesitation was very intermittent but always felt the same. On my way to work last Tuesday, I was accelerating after decelerating in rush hour traffic. The car acted like it was just hesitating like it had been doing but never accelerated. It was dead and I barely made it to the side of the road. It now cranks no start. I have not had to diagnose this condition with any of my Volvos. I had an issue with a fuel pump on my 85 240 that I quickly diagnosed and repaired. And another time where my 85 240 started hesitating but I quickly played with the MAF sensor connector and I was back up and going. And then once when my alternator went out on my 2011 xc90. Replaced alt and back up and going.
After reading several forum threads, I replaced my PEM. I bought it from the dealer.$5xx dollars later. ….. still cranks no start.
I have a couple of questions for you guys.
Can I add some type of connection to the end of my fuel rail to be able to attach a fuel pressure gauge?
And….. should my tach needle be moving when I am cranking it. My doesn’t move and I read once that if it doesn’t move, the problem might be the CPS.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
I’m driving a rented Hundue right now. Please help.
