Tail gate automatic opening problem V70-XC70

2001 xc 70
Tail gate was working from dash button or from key. When you press the dash button it makes a clicking sound and opens enough to make interior light go on. The gate wants to open and keeps trying to open but doesn’t. I sprayed the latch but that didn’t resolve my problem. Any ideas.?
