Hello All,
I hope someone in our community can help me on this quest. I have a 1999 V70 AWD XC Wagon with 230,000 miles. The Volvo is in good shape and belies its age and mileage. I have been advised by my private mechanic of long standing the driveshaft has to be replaced. I hear a "clicking"noise that is intermittent but becoming frequent as I drive down the road.
The part number for this driveshaft is # 9183941. Volvo no longer sells it. When it did, it retailed for over $1,000. I have been advised by my local Volvo dealer parts department, this particular driveshaft was only used by for for 2 years.
My private mechanic has told me that Dorman sells an aftermarket driveshaft made in China, but he would not recommend it because its quality is terrible and is only a $100 cheaper than a Volvo driveshaft (when Volvo sold them). I have made inquiries to my regular vendors, iPd, FCP Euro and eEuro parts to no avail.
I know I can always remove the driveshaft and just drive the car with FWD only, but before I make that choice I want to exhaust my chances of finding a new Volvo driveshaft that might be out there somewhere.
Thanks in advance to all who reply.
Hugh
