EVAP leak code turns out to be caused by bad MAF sensor

I had P0442 and P0440 codes being generated. I took it to a good Volvo mechanic, and he smoke tested it - nothing. The purge valve and gas cap were fine, and he said the purge pump was running - so he didn't want to just put a new one in.

He then said "you have a bad MAF sensor code." I had not received such a code, but his much more capable reader showed "MAF sensor signal low" or something like that. I asked doubtfully "could these be related?" and he said "yes" after thinking about it. I put in a used one I got locally, and thus far it does appear to have solved the problem.
