My S40 project needed two front tires. I wanted to match the Toyo tires that were on it and the tire guy in town got a set of Toyo snow tires (it's winter here), Observe GSI. They are great winter tires but show up the limits of the 1/2 worn rear all season tires on snow or slick roads.
I have run show tires winter and summer. Better to have four snows on a spare set of wheels. As it turns out Ford used 16JX6, 5X108 bolt circle, 42 mm offset, 63.4 mm center hole size wheels on the 2000-2007 Taurus.
The wheels on the S40 are similar but 6.5" wide and 52.5 mm offset. If my math is correct the inside of the tire will move out 3/4" and the outside will move out 1/4".
Being a cheapskate by nature, this appeals to me. Junk Tauri are common here. Two questions - 1) is my math correct ? 2) will that affect the handling in any noticeable way ?
Thanks
Greg
