I just bought a 2002 V70 XC. Good deal, I think: $1400. 173.5K, runs well. Needs a little work. I misunderstood one thing the seller told me, and so I have a bit of a dilemma. I THOUGHT he said the spare key did not open the door, but he couldn't find the spare key. What he actually said was that the key does not open the door (He had replaced the door with another due to damage). So, I have one key to start the car, and one fob to get into the car. The only key entry for the car is the driver's door. Again, the key does not work.

My first thought is to get a spare key AND a spare fob, just to avoid being totally up a creek if one or the other gets lost. Then I had a second thought, so here it is:

Can I go to a salvage yard and find a similar car (with a key in it) and take the ignition AND the door lock from that car and put them in the car I just bought? It seems like a good idea, so it probably isn't.
