mysterious condition S70 1998

'98 w/130k...awaiting heater core transplant and front O2 sensor change...waiting to better weather, as it's been wintry here in CNY of late...

my dilemma...have owned my ride now for 13yrs, and nearly 100k, so many original/ending their lives parts in car..

three times in last week, I've had to deal with a fire right up/run for twenty seconds/then die, with no re-start, or, also from cold, a crank, but no start condition...have managed to start it each time by repeatedly cranking, with accelerator pedal to floor...eventually I can get it stared and running...once warmed up, seems to drive and re-start without issue after shutoff...

this is my daily driver, and has me covering some serious miles on occasion, so reliability a particular concern...is the gone south oxygen sensor causing this erratic hiccup, or something else?...CPS or fuel pump on the way out??...

didn't mean to put off oxygen sensor repair so long, but I'm a driveway mechanic, and my driveway has been under several feet of 'partly cloudy' for some months now..

many thanks to all that can point me in the right direction...have a thousand mile trip coming up in a month, and have to make things right before then..

Tom
