General question about tire pressure: I usually drive alone, though sometimes we fill up the car with family members, luggage, etc. I have always kept the tires inflated to the "full load" amounts (36 psi front, 41 rear) rather than the "light load" pressures of 32/32. I have done the same thing with our '04 XC90. My thinking is that slightly higher pressure might increase gas mileage, improve tire wear, etc. I imagine that the car might ride a little "stiffer" with higher pressures. My question is what is the optimum for everyday use? Clearly, Volvo has some ideas and reasons why they recommend different settings for different loads, but I don't know what their reasons are. At what setting will the car handle better? What about in the snow (with snow tires)? Is higher pressure "better" as I've been assuming, or am I just wrong?
