Hello All,
I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon with 325,000 miles on it. A few months ago, I noticed if I let up slowly on the clutch pedal, I would hear a “rubbing noise”. Usually starting just as I was letting the clutch pedal off the floor. My mechanic place some grease on the clutch cable, but the noise persisted. He recommend that I have the bushing(s) replaced on the clutch pedal bar. Apparently the clutch pedal rotates around some support bar which has a bushing attached to it. I had the bushing(s) in the clutch pedal assembly replaced. Along the way the master cylinder was also replaced because the boot on it had become torn. To my knowledge it was the original master cylinder.
Unfortunately the rubbing noise continues every time I let up on the clutch pedal. I noticed, and this was true before I had the bushing replaced in the pedal, that when I first drove the car in the morning, I did not hear the “rubbing noise”. It was only after driving the car several miles, shifting along the way, that I started to hear the “rubbing noise”. So perhaps friction or heat has some relationship to this noise. Does any one have any suggestions as to what is causing this rubbing noise every time I let up on the clutch pedal?
Thanks to all who respond.
Hugh
