Hello All,
I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon. About two weeks ago, I left a plastic 1 gallon container filled with gasoline (for my lawn mower) on the floor of the car, directly behind the front passenger seat. Unknowingly the container had fallen on its side and about half a gallon of gas or slightly more spilled out onto the floor mat and the rug beneath it. I mopped up the spilled gasoline with rags and parked the car with all the windows open. Although the smell of gasoline was almost overpowering, my thought and hope was, with the passage of time the smell would dissipate and it would not be so obnoxious.
Now, two weeks later, though reduced, the smell of gasoline is still annoying. The area is completely dry to the touch. I am embarrassed at this fiasco I created, but at this point, I will put my pride aside and ask if anyone has a suggestion how I could safely eliminate this odor, besides allowing just the passage of time.
Thank you to all who respond.
Hugh
