I recently purchased a 2007 Volvo XC70 with 105K on it. The Car was in Show Room Condition - MINT!
Absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I have had the car all of 8 weeks when someone decided to back into my front passenger side door. Not leave me a note, etc. and when I discovered it I was pissed. I ended up after having the car looked at a few times by local repair shops who are familiar with Volvo and quoted, ranging from $1000 - $2000. Then my Insurance adjuster came out and look at it as well. His cost for complete redo $1500 to fix the door complete.
I then decided to go to the Volvo person I bought my very first Volvo from. This person works on nothing but Volvo cars all the time. He is referred to as the 'Volvo King' out here.
So, I had him look at the car. He states 'don't bother with the repairs shops. The damage is confined to just the passenger door and the color should be easy to find at a Junk yard. The cost for the door complete should be no more than $250 and in good to mint condition.'
So, taking him up on his word, I started checking the Junk yards around. I ended up finding not one, but two mint condition doors for less than the $250.
Now I have to go and pick it up.
Next step will be taking the old door off and putting the new replacement door on. Does anyone have experience doing this? Or know of instructions on how to do this and what tools will be required of it? let me know, thanks.
Once I get the door on I was also informed that I will need to switch out the electronics in the door as the replacement door will not work with the alarm system and keyless system provided with the car originally.
Thanks for the help.
