Questions about dashboard light bulbs - How to replace? S60 2002

Hello All,

I recently purchased a 2002 S60T5 with a 130,000 miles on the odometer. I noticed a couple of dashboard lights are out, and I would appreciate any advice in how to remove the dashboard panel so I can gain access to these bulbs to replace them. Here are my questions:

1) There are two temperature control knobs located in the center of the dashboard. I noticed the lowest bulb that illuminates the temperature control knob closest to the drive is out. How do I gain access to this bulb to replace it? As background experience, I have replaced these type of bulbs on the EEC unit of my 1996 850, where I just pulled the EEC unit out, disconnected the power cables, and then replaced the burned out bulbs. I’m hoping it is just as easy on this S60.

2) Just below the knob that controls the speed of ventilation fan (it is located in the center of the dashboard), there is a button that has image of the rear passenger seat. If the head rests for the rear passenger seats are in the “up” position, if you push this button, the head rests are released (they are under spring tension) and swing down. This helps to increase your rear window vision. Off to the right of this button there are two other buttons. I noticed at night, these other two bulbs are illuminated when I have the headlights on. Yet the button that controls the rear seat headrests is not illuminated. Is this button supposed to be illuminated? If it is, can someone please tell me how I would gain access to this bulb to replace it?

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to answer my recent flood of questions about my “new” 2002 S60 T5. I didn’t purchase this car new, and the owner’s manual just doesn’t answer the questions I have, so again “Thank You!” to all who respond, I appreciate your assistance.

Hugh
