Hello All,

I just purchased a 2002 S60 T5 with 130,000 miles from the original owner. I think the button that locks/unlocks the door locks in the car is broken, but I want to be sure. I’ll sacrifice my ego and ask this question, just to confirm, before I go off and buy a new control panel. My “newest” Volvo is 1999 V70 XC, so I’m a little behind the times in terms of “features”

Here we go! The lock button for all the doors, is located in the control panel that is located by the arm rest of the driver’s door. It is the bottom left button and it has a symbol of a “Key”.

While sitting in the car without the key in the ignition and all the door locks in the open position, if I press down on the button, it will automatically lock all the doors. If I press the button a second time, all the buttons remain in the locked position. You’ll hear a “solenoid” noise coming from all the doors, but the locks remain in the closed/down position. If I put the key in the ignition and turn or “accessories” or start the engine, the result is the same.

The only way I open/close all 4 door locks at once is to stand outside the car and insert the key into the driver’s side door lock, or use the remote.

Based upon what I read in the owner’s manual, after locking all the doors with the lock button for all the doors, if I push the button a second time it should open all the door locks?

Two questions:

1) Do I understand the operation of this lock button for all the doors?

2) Is this lock button for all the doors broken, thereby requiring the replacement of the entire control panel?
