Re: Larger Oil Filter?

DON'T DO IT!

The stock Volvo filter has more square inches of filtering media than you may first realize. Many volvo dealers have a cut away showing the insides of the Volvo filter compared to three others on the parts counter. The factory filter is really exceptional.

There are several filters that can be installed, including the very long filter that is used on most Ford V8 engines from 1957 to 1990 as well as some engines up to the current model year. The real problem is that it hangs down too low and is easy to knock apart from running over something on the road or even from hitting a parking abutment. We had to replace an engine on a car receintly that had severe engine damage from being driven after the incorrect filter had been bashed. THE MARGINAL IMPROVEMENT IN FILTERING CAPACITY IS NOT WORTH THE RISK.
