Hi,
As always, thanks for the help/advice:
On our 1997 850 GLT, the turbocharger has a small leak, which it has had for a couple years. (Funny - there is not any oil at all on the driveway.) There is oil on the parts immediately below and in the vicinity left and right, like on the oil pan, etc. There is no heavy leak, but the oil on the bottom of the turbo is clean, so it's still leaking. Today I saw a drop of oil (not from the plug) hanging from the pan.
Understanding that leaks are things that don't usually get better, and that most likely there's not a tighten-one-bolt solution, is this a big deal?
Is a turbocharger an easy-enough replacement? Does the whole engine have to be removed, by lifting it or slightly dropping it via removing the subframe?
We do routine repairs, so is this one that should be done right away at this point?
Thanks!!!
