Last month or so, I bought a 1995 855T. Clean, looked well taken care of. Odo was dead, but the miles checked at 178K. Lots of rattles in the rear and oil here and there in the engine compartment(figured a PCV repl).
I fixed the brakes, replaced the odo gear, and now start looking at the engine. There is a large puddle of oil on the driver's side. I haven't crawled under to confirm, but it appears to be the RMS. I have taken the splash pan off to eliminate oil running from one side to the other, and I don't like what I see.
My garage does not support air tools, lift, space for an engine lift, or someone that can be on the ground all day. The mechanic is getting too old for that!
The shops around here start at $115/hr and the dealer is at $140/hr. A 10 hour job is a bit on the costly side. I would still have to do the PCV system, clean the PTC, timing belt, rear suspension bushings, engine mounts, etc, etc.
I don't mind doing the little things, but adding $1200+ to the cost is discouraging for a 20 year old car. Oh, both fenders have rust behind the mud flaps (if the P&P ever gets in a black 850, they are $30 each).
Bummed.
