Before I start I need to ask a question. Do these cars use camshaft bearings? Or is it the shaft sits in just the races/journals cancave things?
On top of our Volvo heads, the valve cover as a whole piece bolts down over the head/valve block. Because cam shafts are not bolted into journals which you can see at (like on overhead cam Toyotas et al) it 'makes it impossible for a workshop to bore through' to make the camshaft to journal to lifter clearances all accurate (with their feeler gauges?) according to the head repair workshop.
So, when the workshop bolted down my cam cover to do the clearances they found they couldn't. They said they cannot make my head accurate and that the intake cam shaft couldn't rotate, so could not do my job. That's the problem. One of the concave seats of the journal bearing seat thing in the block side or cover side is a bit swollen I think. (I burned up the already worn head gasket and had a lot of heat).
What I want to do is put in some lapping compound on the concave bits of journal and parts where shaft sit, then bolt down shaft cover and with the paste rotate cam shafts until finally they sit well become a nice smooth fit that turns well.
Unfortunately workshop pulled all the valves and mixed them up but I have the lifters in oil bath and will grind the valves and put in new valve seals. I don't know if there were bearings on those journals.
Engines of the B5254 T1 are rare as hens teeth around here. Some T2s but asking price is high.
I have a straightened head and beautiful clean head as I spent money on that it is just a cam journal may be a tiny bit swollen as I feel the rubbing and can hear a squeak at a certain point on rotation of the intake camshaft as it sits without top bolted. Maybe if bolted it might be seized. I'll try that.
Any recommendations? I would love to go for this as a solution. Am I dreaming because it is such hardened steel?
