V50 vs V70 T5 high milage -- which is better? (manual transmission)

So I've decided that my 2006 toyota corolla is simply too scary to drive in new england; it doesn't have ABS or stability control, and I really don't want to get in a serious accident with it (not that I want to get in an accident regardless)...

I've been watching craigslist for a while and it seems like manual transmission V70 and V50 cars come up occasionally.

How do they compare (V70 vs V50)? All the cars I see on craigslist are all somewhat high-milage older cars (150k / 2000-2005 and up). I've been in a couple of V70s that haven't been particularly well taken care of yet they still seem nearly new inside and other than some suspension issues seem to drive pretty well also.

I'm not worried about doing regular maintenance, and don't mind if the car asks me for a thousand dollars every once in a while.

I put maybe 5-6k miles per year on my cars.

Is the AWD system on the V50 similar to the 2nd generation V70s?

Thoughts?

Thanks for any suggestions!
