Main Crank oil seal leak problems 850 1994

Hello,

I have had my car in a service department for 1 week now (1994 850 turbo with automatic transmission and 140,000 kms). The car was in to have an oil leak fixed. When diagnosed it was discovered that the weep hole, where the transmission mounts to the crank, was leaking oil. The main crank oil seal has now been repalced. It was noticed that the new seal was different then the old seal. The new seal seams to have some kind of felt inside the seal cup. I am wondering if this was an upgraded part since the originals that were in the car(were the originals faulty or this new design just an improvemet?). After the new seal was replaced it still continued to leak at the same rate as before. The oil pan was the removed and re-sealed with the thought that the original leak might have been from this location. Once again the car was started and leaked once again. We have put in a call to the local Volvo Shop to see if anything has to be done sepcial with this new seal (i have heard that it may be necesssary to sleeve the crank shaft when installing the new seal). Does anyone know of anything that has to be done special to this new seal. Does it leak for awhile and then seal up (this would not be typical of this type of seal), does it require a crank sleeve to be added, should we drop the crank case and check for a leak at this joint (is this a typical problem)? Any help would be appreciated. I have searched the archives and have not seen much on this subject.

Thanks
