Well, the dealer finally got my cooler box/refrigerator for the back seat last week--ordered it last October! It goes in fairly nicely--the center seat and seat back must come out, cooler locks in. It has room for 14 -12 oz cans(must lie horizontal), or, you can put 7 cans on the bottom and stuff sandwiches, etc above(there is a tray that sits above the 7 cans with two compartments if you want to keep food items separated).
Larger type plastic bottles(water bottles, soft drinks, etc.) do not use the space as efficiently as 12 oz cans do!
The cooler has an on/off switch on it. The 12v cord is long enough to plug into the outlet on the passenger side of the cargo area. While this is OK, I wonder if the engineers could put an outlet right next to the box in future models. As it is designed--the cord is in the way if you are using the back for luggage etc.
There are two cupholders built into the front of the cooler[Oh my God,my $40,000+ Volvo finally has cupholders for the rear seat passengers!] plus a little storage area on the front with mesh to hold small items. Of course, to get the cupholders, passenger capacity is now down to four.
We have not tried it out on a long enough trip yet. Directions say the box works best if the items are already cooled down before you put them in.
