Following is account of troubles:
1. For weeks, I had codes P0133 (O2 sensor slow response, sensor 1) and P0140 (O2 sensor no activity, sensor 2), but the car was running just fine.
2. One morning at 55 mph, she started to hesitate and buck. I pulled over and stopped. When I attempted to move again, the engine stalled and would not re-start. There was strong smell of sulphur. I had it towed.
3. The next morning, prior to any work being done, for kicks I attempted to start the engine, and it started with no trouble, and for those few minutes it idled fine.
4. Mechanic replaced cap-rotor-plugs-wires. He said the cap had a large amount of moisture inside, and that there were multiple misfire codes.
5. Car drove home fine (1.5 miles), where it sat for two days.
6. The next start was again without issue, and it idled great for five minutes, at which time I was thinking All's Good! But almost immediately upon acceleration (I only got to 2nd gear), the hesitation and bucking started again, and it was running extremely rough all of a sudden. I barely made it back home.
7. My codes are now P0300 (random misfire); P0301 (cyl 1 misfire); P0302 (cyl 2 misfire); P0303 (cyl 3 misfire); and P0304 (cyl 4 misfire). No cylinder 5 misfire code.
8. Now it runs like crap as soon as I start it up - engine shaking violently.
Anyone come up with a plausible explanation of what may have happened, based on this sequence of events? Strange that this is intermittent - I was able to drive home without issue ...
THANKS MUCH
