Hello All,
I’ve read through a number of comments pertaining to changing/lubing the ignition cylinder and want to ask a general opinion question. I was having difficulty bringing myself to spending $275-$300 just to purchase a new lock cylinder for my ’00 S70. I was just about to succumb and order one when this thought hit me.
Why even bother with the lock cylinder? Just remove the lock mechanism and reassemble it. Other than locking the steering column as a thief deterrent, it serves no other purpose, and I do not personally care if the steering column locks or not. You still need the original key to start the car. The ID ring and ignition switch work just fine. I drove cars for years that did not have steering locks, and none of them ever disappeared in the night. Unless someone has an over compelling reason for replacing the lock, just to replace the lock, I would just as soon save myself the expense.
Thanks for any comments.
Rich
