Hello all,
I'm new to owning these AWD Volvos--just got this 2002 V70 XC from my in-laws. Of course, I've been doing most of the maintenance on it for years already.
Anyways, when accelerating, everything sounds fine. However, as soon as I let up on the gas, a high-pitched whine is immediately present. It lowers in pitch when slowing down, until a full stop. Then restart the process. It is quite noticeable. Definitely coming from the front area somewhere. I first thought it might be a wheel bearing, but it just doesn't sounds like one the more I listen to it. The transmission was just rebuilt, and the rebuilder said everything with the tranny is fine. I've ordered fluid for the bevel gear. Is that likely to fix anything? Do I need a (gulp $$) new bevel gear? Should I just deal with it?
As far as I know, the AWD system works well. Of course, I'm not really sure if it does and haven't tested it.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Nate
