oil on top of my engine V70-XC70 1999

I removed the belt cover on my NA engine to change the thermostat and saw some oil puddling on top of the engine. I thought it was blow-by from the oil fill cap. But I thought I should check with you guys.

Some time ago I noticed that the cap was leaking and bought and installed a new gasket. I thought I had cured the problem.

What should I look for?
