I have a '99 S70 N/A with 16,500 miles. All of the scheduled maintenance are current on this vehicle including the recent replacement of spark plugs, rotor, cap and plug wires. Recently, I have been experiencing difficulty starting the vehicle. Sometimes this anamoly occurs when the vehicle has been run and at other times when it sits overnight (no particular pattern). This morning I noticed that when the key was turned to position II all the dash lights came as normal, however, the alarm LED near the windshield was blinking very rapidly. I have never notice this before because this was the first time I started the vehicle in the semi-darkness of my garage. Please keep in mind that the alarm was not armed and that all the doors and hatches were closed securely. Anyway, each time the vehicle failed to start, the LED was blinking rapidly while the key was in position II. I would usually let the vehicle sit for 30-60 seconds before attempting another crank. When it did start, the alarm LED remained off while the key was in position II and the vehicle immediately started. On those occasions that the vehicle does not start, it would initially appear like fuel starvation or no spark. The engine just constantly turns without starting. However, when the vehicle does start, it is a clean start. In other words, no indication of unburnt or excess fuel, no sputtering. Just a smooth start. Could this anamoly be associated with the alarm system and the engine immobilizer? I will be taking the vehicle in to the dealer on Monday.
