Rear Springs 850

I have a 1994 n/a 5 speed and even though it doesn't have the power of my T5, I have decided to make it handle better (blast to drive btw). I bought the cheap springs on FCP for $190 and I had no problem with the front, but the rear are giving me a bit of a headache. There is a great write up on volvospeed, but my issue is that the bolt holds the bottom of the spring just spins and I have no idea how to get a tool or vise grip etc, inside the spring to hold the other end. I was going to just grind it off, but I don't want to damage any threads. I soaked it in PB blaster for about 24 hours. I would appreciate any suggestions.
