Antenna not retracting 850

The antenna on my sister's 850 is not retracting. How can I access the motor and inner workings to assess the problem? The cover inside the trunk looks like a bear to remove. We can hear the motor whirring in an effort to move it up and down but it's stuck in the partially up position. Thanks for any assistance and/or suggestions.
