'04 Sound System Question V70-XC70

Hi gang,

I have a '04 XC70 with a HU-613 sound system. I was given for Christmas a device that will connect my iPhone and iPod to the sound system thru a Bluetooth connection. The iPod connection can be from either the Bluetooth or from an AUX connection. There are two ways to hook up this device:

1. Cut the speaker wires, and wire the device in to the speaker wires so that when a phone call comes in, the radio is cut out and the phone call goes to the speakers. The speakers would be driven by the device, not by the HU-613 amplifyer. While this is probably fine for phone calls, it would not be good for the iPod input since the device does not have the amplifyer power to put out good sound.

2. The other option is to cut the low level leads between the HU-613 and an external audio amplifyer. In this setup, the HU-613 will send audio signals to the amplifyer as usual. When a call comes in or the iPod is hooked up, the device will cut out the HU-613 signal and feed the phone call or iPod signal to the audio amp from low level outputs from the deivce.

To me, option 2 makes a lot more sense. My car does not have the external amplifyer, but I can get one from a Volvo recycler. So the questions are:

1. Where does the amplifyer normally get mounted in a factory install?
2. Are all the connectors (power, etc.) in place to make the hook up relatively painless?
3. Is the HU-613 already putting out low level signals to the connector on the back to the HU-613? Or, do I have the dealer hook it up to their over priced computer for a software download or something?
4. What are the pin outs for the low level cable so that I can splice the low level wires from my device?

I think that is all for now. Any assistance would be a great help.

Thanks,
--
