That Whole Radio Code Thing 850

Yeah, I disconnected my radio again, trying to make sure the multi-pins in the back were really seating properly. Unfortunately, when I tried turning it on again, and I went through the CODE process I entered my first radio's code, not the replacement radio code. And I did it enough times that the radio, as it's supposed to, turned to OFF, and won't accept a code.
Last night I did what Volvo recommends: turning the key to the first position and letting it sit for 2 hours. Then try the radio. Didn't work. OFF was still the only thing that would come up.
So my question is this: should the radio be off for that 2 hours, then I turn it on afterwards as I make the attempt to re-code?
Thanks in advance...
