The new cat is in but the junction to the old muffler is noisy/leaking.
So what to do? I went to a Meineke Muffler shop, and they suggested welding
a sleeve, and I practiced my only Russian word: NYET I want to be able to
swap in a muffler when need-be.
Then I went to the auto parts joints, and see they have a variety of magic bullets for muffler repairs... (I've usually been disappointed in that collection of overpriced crap!) I grabbed a tube of Permatex "Exhaust Repair" which is
" " Made for the Professional " " ..... It's some kind of high Temp RTV maybe..
(I'm afraid to try it and kept the sales slip)
I'm still wondering if maybe ordinary furnace cement is all that's needed in the
cat to muffler joint. The sad part is that the clamp is not so good at pulling
the joint together.... What's the story here?
Has anyone put in a muffler and made up the joint to the cat without it leaking?
Thanks, Bill
