I have intermittent issues with the auto gearbox shifting on cold mornings. When I put the gear lever in D, frequently the transmission will stay in 1st gear until I apply light aft pressure on the gear lever and then the trans will shift properly. This pressure must be held until the car warms up. This seems to mostly occur on cold/cool mornings when the temp is below 55F. After driving the car for 5-10 minutes the issue goes away. I have had a mechanic tell me that the "shift position sensor" (not sure if I got the nomenclature correct) is possibly gummed up from years of coffee, soda, etc being spilled on the center console.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
