I went, this morning, to wash my parents' V70 (1998, with 96k on the clock), and the key would not move.
After wiggling the key, I was able to start the V70, but the headlights would not come on, nor would the radio or fan.
I turned the car off, locked the doors, unlocked the doors, locked the doors again, unlocked the doors, and was able to then start the V70 without issue. To be certain, I turned the V70 off, and started it, again and again, and had no issue.
I put a little Lock-Ease in the cylinder, and, switching between the three keys, I turned the V70 on-and back off.
Having dealt with numerous faulty ignition cylinders in older Mercedes (at the shop which I was the manager), I can only hope that the ignition cylinder is in fact o.k.-though, having looked at VADIS, the job doesn't not seem to be all that difficult.
I consulted with my parents, and they said they have not had any issues with turning the key. I will keep an eye on it, and report back.
I hope that everyone is having an absolutely splendid Saturday! :)
