How to check codes??? 850 1993

I have a 93 850. How can i check the codes myself. I know where the box is under the hood and have noticed the jumper,(i assume) It appears to be two boxes.. left being A and the right B.. Now what do I do??

When it fails to start i want to check the code?? Help?? thanks
