What is all the doom and gloom about? Drive your 850 and enjoy the ride. My 1993 850 GLT has 141,000 miles and runs like a champ on original engine & trans. Didn't change the fluid until 125,000; I now use the drain & fill method every 6 months with Mobil synth, and use 10W 30 Mobil 1 engine oil every 3,000 miles. Did have to replace the rear main seal at 130,000 and Evap Core at 138,000; for this I used an aftermarket core made of copper, not aluminium - made in PA and purchased thru Worldpac in CA. Did the evap replacement myself - big ass job but rewarding. Also retrofitted with pollen filter - also new receiver dryer. New Bilsteins and replaced the MXV4's with Michelin Pilot XGTH4's - firmer ride but better traction and handling at a better price (check the specs for yourself). Did replace the shifter microswitch once, thermiostat and and the instrument cluster and typical seat cable. Though not leaking, replaced water pump with timing belt at 120,000. I threw away my flame trap after the rear main seal failure. Please, please change your fluids (brake, antifreeze, engine oil, trans) and change both air filters regularly (this includes the one to the ECU box). One last thing, Don't baby these babies, they are made to be driven - great cars. If you want to complain, go buy a Honda Accord and be bored. I also own a 1986 BMW 524td (yes, that stands for turbo DIESEL)in pristine condition - tons of power and torque and 36 mpg - no kidding - probably the most reliable car in the world.
