Age old question about synthetic oil S70

First off, does the S70 model require synthetic oil from Day one?
I wonder if I bought a used car from someone who has changed the oil with dino
for years, can I switch over to synthetic say at 100k miles?

I have read that it can cause leaky engine seals.
