I bought a used 2003 V70 in Eastern PA and am on the way driving it home to Huntley, IL (NW of Chicago). After I picked up the car it stalled numerous times, but I assumed that this was due to it sitting and not being driven for the past 2 months. I filled up the tank with 93 Octane fuel to begin my journey home, approx. 850miles. The car ran fine for 300miles through PA (averaging 34.4MPG as per the trip computer), but as I exited Interstate 76 to spend the night, everything went dead. Coasting to a stop on the ramp I investigated and found a unsecured battery and loose positive cable. I secured the battery and tightened the positive battery terminal, car restarted fine, and I proceeded to find a motel. Later this evening I restarted the car to find a restaurant and the check engine light came on and stayed on.
Message in Text window states " 0 Messages (5) " . Is there a way to read the codes manually, or is an OBDII reader needed ? Can I continue my journey home 500+ miles with the check engine light on, or do I need to get this checked out ? I would prefer to take it to my local shop in IL. Any assistance and advice will be appreciated. Thks
