Kinda desperate here...
I am seriously stuck in the middle of removing the ol' steering gear. Having done all the steps of unbolting, disconnecting, dropping the subframe, pushing up on the tranny etc., I should now be able to pull the steering gear out. Haynes says to move the gear out to the right-hand side of the vehicle. Actually, there is quite a bit of wiggle room, but two things seem impossible at this stage: First, the steering fluid pipes basically wrap around the gear like hooks. How to get them out of the way ? Over the steering shaft? Or through toward the front? (yes, I have unbolted the fluid pipe retaining clip bolts). Second, there seems a lot of stuff (engine mount) in the way of the steering shaft. It seems like I should tilt the steering gear toward the front of the vehicel? But again I am getting hung up on the fluid pipes. I could still try to drop the subframe a little more, but not by much and I don't want to overdo it. Sorry about the lengthy post. Any ideas, PLEASE share them.
