driver side front 'click' sound when braking after brake pad job V70-XC70 2002

I just brake pads all around on my xc. I had the "caliper socket" from ipd so when I did the fronts (pads only) I didn't remove the caliper mount rather just the two special bolts and the spring clip. Pretty straight forward and everything seemed to go well, followed my standard lube procedure, etc. However, now when braking, each time the brakes are applied, there is one click (almost a clank) sound when the brake pedal travels past about 1". I can hear it very well at slow speeds in a parking lot, etc. It is one distinct sound, not repeated. I thought it might be the upper motor mount but upon closer inspection it is clearly coming from the driver's side. There is virtually nothing I can do to prevent this click. In fact, if I brake extremely slowly and even at a very low speed the click get's even MORE pronounced. Is this a bad caliper? The brakes are solid performance wise (though I haven't tested a panic stop because I'm still in the burnish period). Also, brake fluid level checks out fine. *edited to keep html special chars from showing up in title ;)
