Timing belt replace needs a Volvo toolfor counter balance? V70-XC70 2004

I am considering changing the timing belt/water pump my self on my 2004 V70(if I decide to keep the car). I have not done one before, and I know there are some good write ups about it. I was told that I would need a special Volvo counter balance tool to hold the crank pulley? Does anyone know if this is true? Is this model a DIY'er?
