Ok, so I'm new to these 21century cars, you know, FWD.
Just got my Mom's V40 here (for my daughter) and one obvious noise is a loud sorta crack (I thought the tire was pulling on the fender liners, and the sound was of them snapping back, well that's what it sounded like to me, but it isn't),
when backing and turning sharply at low speed. No noise on typical turns nor once moving along the road.
Is this a CV joint going? How do I tell which one? Can they be checked statically?
Is it easiest to replace the whole axle ($95 at FCP) or worthwhile to save bucks and do just the joint (although I didn't see them for sale)?
