Have you lubed the steering shaft u-joints? On both my 240 and 850 the lower joint corroded causing stiff and difficult steering.

I sprayed WD-40 into the joint as I worked the steering from lock to lock for a few minutes. Voila! You might need to do this a few times for it to work and will probably need to repeat every so often...
