power steering supply and return lines 850 1993

Hi All,

I've developed a leak in the metal line from the power steering pump to the rack.
It is rusting through. I love Vermont!

How much trouble is it to un-thread the fittings from the rack? I've had success with brake lines by cutting the line off just above the "flare nut" and putting a tight fitting 6 point deep socket on it. Tight fitting to the point of using SAE socket that's a bit smaller and tapping it on with a hammer.

Replacements are available, FCPgroton wants $69 for pressure side and $93.50 for return. The cheapskate in me wants to take a shot cutting the old line up close to the rubber end of the line where the line is still in good shape and using a flaring tool and a union to "patch" it. The question is what kind of flare is in the line where it attaches to the rack ?
Is it a single flare, double flare (Brake line style) or is it a balloon flare like Volvo uses on all of their brake lines?

Has anyone else had any success with that ?

Thanks in advance,
John
