Rear brakes and how much of the workload do they really do? 850 1995

Just curious of anyone's opinion out there about how much work the rear disc brakes actually do? My 1995 854 with 199,000 miles on it is at the local Indy today getting fitted with new rear rotors and rebuilt calipers. I was surprised when I checked my little maintenance book to see that those rear rotors are original. Never been replaced until today.

A co-worker was saying to me that the front brakes take the brunt of the workload in stopping the car and the rear very little. Is this true?
