Should I stay or should I go?
My wife and I have been wrestling with the idea of buying a one owner, 2007 XC90 6 cylinder w/ 65K for $21K. After reading here I must say, KlausC, you (and some other posters to this site) are rattling my decade’s long enthusiasm for Volvos. Not that our 4year long ownership of our first 4WD Volvo hasn’t contributed to some of that lost enthusiasm also. Keep in mind my first Volvo was a 1971 142s w/ 65k+ that I bought in 1974. By the time I got rid of it years later, there was over 350k on original motor, transmission and most other main driveline parts. Since then I’ve lost count of how many Volvos I’ve owned, not to mention how many I have persuaded friends and family to buy. At this point my wife and I have a 95 940 and a 99 XC. The 940 is still our favorite. She’s a reliable beauty and I could rave all day about the B20’s dependability and reliability. The XC is strong and tough but; as Commander Montgomery Scott (James Doohan) once said “the more they overtake the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the drain.” Some of the price we pay for technology is the loss of reliability. She’s great in snow/ice travel but has also been a costly endeavor to upkeep. And now China is in the picture. A 4x4 is a necessity here in our lake affects snow belt. Maybe it's time for the likes of a Toyota or Ford or???
