Ghost in the machines V70-XC70 2001

somehow I got this posted in the wrong spot. sorry to repeat.

This past weekend I took my wife and son out to Dallas for a MLS game. During the 8 hour drive, I had a strange experience. The radio was off, but just outside Vicksburg, MS, we began hearing serious static through the rear speakers. I turned the radio on, and the static continued over the music. Turned it off again--same static.

I pulled over at a station, popped out the rear post speakers( a simple snap in-out, as you may know) but the static continued through the door speakers....not so easy to remove. At this point I had full static through the speakers and the key was in my hand as I stood outside the car.

I low-teched it, and propped some pillows up against the speakers to drown out the most of it. We all put in our earbuds and turned up the music on our phones, and headed on to Dallas.

Just outside Shreveport, LA, the static stopped--never to return. I suspected some sort of interference common to the area, but on the return trip--not a peep. I know there is an explanation, so if you know, I'd like to hear your take on it.
