Noise when shifting into park S70

My mom called and describes a noise she hears, at the rear, while shifting into park as a "rasberry" sound. (Must be thinking of my childhood behavior). Anyway, it's a 2000 light pressure turbo, front wheel drive. To me it sounds like it could be a loose muffler or cracked exhaust somewhere. She recently had a timing belt and AC charge. I live 180 miles from her so I wondered if it wasn't an obvious loose muffler could it be something major?
