I'm posting this in case you have a check engine with temp sensor code which happened to me the day before yesterday.
In addition to the check engine light, the temp gauge went intermittent, going totally cold and then the engine would slowly speed up. That, coupled with the code led me to replace the temp sending unit--the slowly speeding up engine made sense because the computer thought we were in cold start situation and was upping the RPMS and probably the fuel mixture.
OK, so replaced the sending unit (and the thermostat for good measure, plus replaced those stupid torx bolts with hex head bolts). Problem remained. The eventual solution?? Corrosion on the pins in the connector! Probably got a little wet during previous thermostat replacements.
So if you get the temp sensor code, you could well save yourself some time by checking the pins in the connector first....don't know why I didn't do that based upon my Air Force experience of long ago.
